A walk through the streets of this charming and important lakeside town, full of unexpected views and hidden treasures, to retrace its history: the remains of the medieval Castle in the old town, the superb aristocratic residences, the elegant rationalist Lido and the luxury hotels overlooking Lake Como.
Visiting Menaggio, we immediately realize the more international character of the town, stretched between the hill and Lake Como and a connection point with nearby Switzerland and Lake Lugano. But walking through the narrow cobbled streets of the ancient fortified town, towards what remains of the Castle, we get the impression of a rich past history. Towards the shore, over the centuries, the town was enriched with palaces of important merchant families, with Grand Hotels for travellers from the north in search of milder and healthier climates, until it had a railway line to Lugano. Finally, walking along the beautiful lakeside, we savour all the elegance of the place and the poignant sweetness of the landscape.
