Aboard a Navigazione Lago di Como boat or a private motorboat, we let ourselves be moved by the guide’s stories, while the gaze ranges from the shores, where monuments, churches and sumptuous villas stand, to the slopes, on which ancient villages and chapels climb, and to the mountain peaks, on which mountain pastures with refuges open up. Once landed in the Central Lake, a visit to Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, now a museum, and its enchanting botanical garden, famous for the spring flowering of camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas, and praised by famous writers, makes us understand the importance of Lake Como in the past.
