DREAM GARDENS COMPARED: VILLA CARLOTTA AND VILLA MELZI (7 HOURS)
In Tremezzo, the botanical garden of Villa Carlotta amazes with its rich variety of rare essences and the incredible flowering of azaleas and rhododendrons; the romantic park of Villa Melzi in Bellagio fascinates with the sweetness of its views, the majesty of its plants, the constant presence of the lake.
The narrow entrance avenue to the gardens of Villa Carlotta, in the part of Lake Como called Tremezzina, leads to the view of the spectacular monumental staircase, the elevated façade and the Italian garden. There are flower beds, avenues of laurels, hedges of multi-colored century-old camellias and citrus pergolas, already present at the beginning of the 19th century. To the northwest, instead, the botanical garden of the Romantic era develops, which in full bloom amazes the visitor, enraptured by the apotheosis of the colors of camellias, rhododendrons, azaleas, wisteria and the size of the trees. And as a backdrop to the valley there is always the lake. With the scheduled boat or private motorboat, we then reach Bellagio, to admire a completely different, but equally astonishing garden: the park of Villa Melzi d’Eril. With the romantic taste and that of overseas countries, here the landscape is remodeled to create plains and hills, gentle green terraces, long telescopes, shaded perspective avenues, architecture in pure neoclassical style and rare essences are planted that are majestic today.
