On the heights above the village of Ascona, you will discover the history and curiosities of Monte Monescia, renamed Monte Verità, which since 1900 has become a center of attraction for those who were already looking for an alternative life. On foot along a beautiful forest of birch trees and ferns you will then reach the hill called Balladrum where a fortified redoubt from the La Tène period (Iron Age) once stood. This hill, quite high and impervious, has given rise to popular legends narrating the existence, in that place, of a turreted city and of witches’ gatherings … After lunch, we immerse ourselves in the forest of Maia in Arcegno. The Park is characterized by a forest left entirely to natural evolution (a reality almost absent in Ticino), and which allows you to enjoy all the infinite variety of aspects that only an “ancient forest” offers.
